| BACKSTORY: This INCREDIBLE collection of miniature buildings is sculpted by Robert Olszewski. Base & tree accessory kits #1, #2, #3, and electrical lighting kit available: click for link. AVAILABLE ONLY FROM OLSZEWSKI STUDIOS; CANNOT PURCHASE THROUGH DISNEY.
UPDATES: With the Main Street base completed, most likely 1-2 MAJOR attractions will be released per year. The Disneyland Marquee was the first release in the new Nostalgia series. Upcoming releases include House of the Future (2010), Clock of Tomorrow, WED PeopleMover, Flying Saucers, and the Skyway. All would be the same Z scale as the rest of the Main Street collection, but not necessarily designed to fit into the base at this point, with the exception of the House of the Future piece (which will fit over the Ariel’s Grotto piece). Fantasyland is the next area to be tackled with a base, and the Storybook Land attraction would be part of the base as well as released in 2 pieces separate from the base (one would be Casey Junior area, the other would be the dock area). Casey Junior will not be motorized, as its miniature size would make this very difficult to accomplish.
The Monsanto House of the Future piece was shown on July 20, 2008 at The Anaheim NFFC Convention and slated for 2010. Delays to problems with manufacturing in China caused the dates of this and The Snow White’s Scary Adventures pieces to be delayed. The Snow White piece was released on December 4, 2010, and then the House of the Future piece was held up once again, this time due to copyright problems with Monsanto.
Future cast member/accessory packs are in the works, but will most likely consist of multiple cast members and/or multiple vehicles, as opposed to the specialized packs of the past. Disney feels this will be a better sell. As a result, Tree Pack 4 is on hold. The Matterhorn is still problematic due to the costs of resin & shipping (resin is made from petroleum...you do the math!); a very durable paper mache alternative has been examined, as well as one made of wax. The Carrousel is also already under development. The Carrousel is estimated to be at least a $500 piece due to all the intricate detail and the possibility of movement.
The Fantasyland Base prototype was first displayed at Disneyana on June 12, 2010. The Skyway Fantasyland Station is intended to be part of the base since it still exists at the park. Talks are still underway to make it possible for collectors to have the choice of interchanging Dumbo with The Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship. There is a space reserved on the base for this option in the location of where Dumbo originally was built in the park. There will be only one version of the base released, however, it will be constructed so that collectors will have the option of displaying Fantasyland separately or connected to the Main Street base.
Anybody needing help putting their base together, feel free to email me questions, as I am finished with my setup.
